The 5 Greatest PlayStation State of Play Reveals: “Death Stranding 2,” “Rise of the Ronin,” and More

playstation

Sony’s inaugural PlayStation State of Play for 2024 got up on Wednesday with a bang, showcasing exclusive gameplay and revealing details about some of the greatest games that will be hitting the system in the upcoming months.

Sony revealed a PlayStation 5 version of “Until Dawn,” a PlayStation version of “Dave the Diver” (which features Godzilla), and a teaser for Capcom’s “Dragon’s Dogma II” during the forty-three-minute presentation.

However, those blockbuster releases are nothing compared to today’s biggest stories, which include Ken Levine’s much-awaited BioShock sequel and Hideo Kojima’s new endeavor. The top five revelations from the State of Play are listed below.

“STELLAR BLADE” (PlayStation)

The first significant teaser was for “Stellar Blade,” a ShiftUp story set in a post-apocalyptic Earth where people have fled to an off-world colony due to an enigmatic enemy force known as the NA:tive that resembles Demogorgons.

Players take on the role of paratrooper Eve, who is traveling with friends Adam and Lily to save humanity from destruction. Key locations like the underground metropolis of Xion and gameplay features like skill trees and equipment upgrades were seen in the trailer. Eve will come across needy people regularly, and the players can choose to assist or ignore them. On April 26, the game will be released.

“SILENT HILL”(PlayStation)

There were two significant announcements in the universe of Silent Hill by Konami. First up, a same-day PlayStation 5 release date for the free-to-play game “Silent Hill: The Short Message” was announced. A young woman jumps off a building in the preview film and wakes up in a strange and dangerous place. Messages from a buddy are bothering her, urging her not to leave her jail until she discovers what she’s searching for.

Additionally, the teaser for the PS5 version of “Silent Hill 2” was unveiled; however, no release date was disclosed.

“JUDAS”(PlayStation)

A new story trailer for “Judas,” the most recent game from BioShock developer Ken Levine, was unveiled. A young woman with gray hair asks, “What if I told you that everything you said is being recorded? All the ideas you’ve ever had? Your emotions—love, fear, and hate—were only inserted into your mind like weeds in a garden. How would you take care of yourself? Nothing, as we both know, is the response to that query.

The first-person shooter gameplay clip features a dinosaur wearing a cowboy hat, spraypainting accidents, and aggressive robots. A release date was not disclosed.

“RISE OF THE RONIN”(PlayStation)

Impressive traversal mechanics enabling the protagonist to run, climb, glide, and ride horses were highlighted in a new gameplay preview for “Rise of the Ronin,” which will launch exclusively on the PS5 on March 22.

Meanwhile, foreign-imported guns are used in battle alongside long Japanese swords. With creations like the Fire Pipe, an antiquated technological device resembling a flamethrower, players can also boost the ante.

“DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH” AND MORE HIDEO KOJIMA IP (PlayStation)

A strange teaser for “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” claims that Léa Seydoux’s character Fragile is the leader of a brand-new non-profit organization called Drawbridge. “You united America,” says Sam, the character played by Norman Reedus. “But death stranding is, I fear, far from being over. Humanity remains vulnerable, still in danger of being extinct.

The almost ten-minute teaser features a variety of bizarre visuals, such as a marionette-like monster clinging to Sam’s hip and Troy Baker’s Higgs engaging in combat with an electrified guitar. In 2025, the game, which also stars Elle Fanning, will be released.

Legendary game developer Hideo Kojima and PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst unveiled “Physint,” a new action-spy IP, after the clip. Kojima tweeted, “Of course, this is an interactive ‘game,’ but the look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, sound, etc. are all at the next level of ‘Digital Entertainment’ that could be called a movie,'” even though not much more about the project was known. The “Physint” emblem was visible behind a Columbia Pictures sign as the State of Play concluded. I’m not sure what that implies.

The next State of Play, scheduled for February 6, will be solely focused on “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” so fans won’t have to wait long.
